Wind turbines are excellent sources of renewable power. Given a location with good wind, a Wind turbine will produce more energy than a solar PV system, for each dollar invested. Wind turbines convert the mechanical energy of the wind into usable electricity. In most areas, you can sell surplus electricity you produce, back to your utility, this is called “net metering.” When a surplus is generated by your system, your electric meter will actually spin backwards as you supply power to the utility’s electric grid.

As approved dealers for the 3 leading brands available, Building Energy can provide a wind turbine that is right for your location and your energy needs.

Abundant Renewable Energy

Abundant Renewable Energy (ARE) wind generators are as strong as you'll find anywhere. Designed for harsh climates, they are built simply and ruggedly to quietly last. ARE machines have a large swept area to capture more wind and produce more energy, especially in low wind speeds. These machines produce energy in the winds you get, day in and day out. ARE models are available in both the 2.5 kilowatt size and 10 kilowatt size. Both models can be used for battery charging (48V) or grid-tie with the SMA Wind Boy Inverters.

Bergey Windpower

Bergey Windpower is one of the world’s leading suppliers of small wind turbines. With 30 years of experience, they know how to make a reliable machine. These machines are relatively low-maintenance and long lasting. Bergey offers a 1 kilowatt battery-charging model (24V) that is popular for off-grid use. They also make a 10 kilowatt model available with either a grid-tie inverter or battery-charging controller.

Proven Energy

Proven is a Scottish company that has a 30-year track record of making high-quality residential wind turbines. The Proven machines boast a patented flexible blade system that enables maximum power production across a wide range of wind speeds. With 4 different models, the Proven line has a machine that will fit just about any residential energy requirement. They come in a 600-watt model, a 2.5-kilowatt model, a 6-kilowatt model and a new 15-kilowatt model. Like the ARE turbines, these machines are all compatible with the SMA Windy Boy grid-tie inverters.

Requirements for a viable installation:

1) For best results, a wind turbine should be located at least 30
feet above any ground obstructions (building and trees.)

2) Many turbines are mounted on a guyed tower. The guy wires require
an 80-foot diameter footprint of relatively level ground.

Plan on having the turbine serviced at least once a year to keep it in
good operating condition.
